Damaged spring seal of the laser processing head optics

Spring seals can be found on the lens holders of the laser processing heads. They are used to support the lens from the bottom. They come in various diameters and thicknesses.

Spring seals don’t deteriorate so easily. As the plastic shell is supported by a metal seal inside, they are strong enough to last long. But they may either get damaged by an off-centered laser beam.

Off-centered laser beams may happen by several reasons. First the source of the fault needs to be determined so problem is not going to happen over and over again.

After that, this damaged spring seal needs to be replaced. But don’t forget, if the spring seal is damaged,90% of the cavity is contaminated by soot and particles; hence, the surrounding cavity needs to be cleaned as well. Needless to say, any optic in the same cavity might be contaminated too, so it is better to replace them as well.
